Nashville, TN's history is a very rich one that can be traced back more than two hundred-years. The settlement of Nashborough was named after Gen. Francis Nash was built on the Cumberland River in 1779. The founding fathers James Robertson and Colonel John Donelson, came with groups of pioneers from Fort Patrick Henry in East Tennessee and settled in Nashborough. On Christmas Day 1779, Robertson's party, men traveling over land on foot and horseback, arrived in Nashborough. On April 24, 1780, John Donelson and the wives and children of the men in Robertson's party arrived on a flotilla of flatboats, reuniting about sixty-families. Nashville has grown steadily ever since to its current population of nearly 619,626.
